This is the beginning of our story... Brian and I have been together since 2002, and married on January 3rd, 2009. We are both college graduates (Brian with his masters), we both have the careers we dreamed of, we bought our first home in Oct. 2011, and found out we were pregnant on Feb. 29, 2012. To say we were on the top of the world would be an understatement. That world came crashing down on April 19, 2012 when we found out our baby had Anencephaly, a fatal neural tube defect. We were told we could terminate the pregnancy, or continue the pregnancy knowing that when I deliver our baby would live only minutes or hours. We chose to continue with the pregnancy and our due date was Oct. 31, 2012. On May 15, 2012 we found out we were having a boy!
We want you to meet our son, Colin Patrick Perry. He was born sleeping and went to be with God at 1:13am on October 24th, 2012. He was 16 inches long and weighed 4 pounds 7.3 ounces. Because we chose to carry Colin and put our trust in God, we learned so much about him and bonded as a husband and wife deeper than we could have ever imagined. Colin loved to be up late at night, eat pancakes, watch (listen to) Seinfeld, and show off when you put your hand on Joanna's tummy.
As his parents, we were devastated to learn of his condition. Anencephaly was the furthest thing from our vocabulary, but became all too familiar within weeks after forcing its way into our life. Colin was our first pregnancy, first son, and our first everything.
We started Carrying Colin to help parents of babies diagnosed with Anencephaly. We want you to know that you are not alone and that there is life after being given this diagnosis. Our story is here to show you our triumphs, tribulations, and heartaches as a family. Carrying Colin was not a choice, but rather what he deserved. This is the beginning of our story with Colin and our family, but not the end. Do no hesitate to email us or reach out to us on social media... we are here for you, your family, and your baby in any way we can.
